Dan Nicholas Park

Play original at Dan Nicholas Park, a 425-acre park located 8 miles southeast of Salisbury in Rowan County. The park was created with a gift of 330 acres of land from Mr. Dan Nicholas in 1968. Mr. Dan Nicholas was a local entrepreneur and philanthropist. Dan Nicholas Park welcomes 600,000 - 700,000 visitors per year with unique attractions and events for families. The park offers a 10-acre lake for paddle boating and fishing, Rowan Wildlife Adventures nature center, tennis courts, picnic shelters, the Hurley Family Water Plaza, playgrounds, volleyball, horseshoes, ball fields, miniature golf, a carousel, gem mining, a freshwater aquarium, animal habitats, a miniature train ride for children and more. Attractions vary by season.

Dan Nicholas hosts seasonal events, including the annual Autumn Jubilee. For more than 40 years Autumn Jubilee has arrived at Dan Nicholas Park the first weekend of October. The annual festival attracts more than 60,000 visitors from across Rowan County and the state, and celebrates the season with craft vendors, children’s activities, live entertainment and food. 

Dan Nicholas Park is home to Rowan Wildlife Adventures, a small nature facility. Our facility is home to the Nature Center, T.M. Stanback Barnyard, and Wildlife Adventures. The center maintains a collection of live North Carolina native animals including various types of reptiles, mammals, birds, and fish. Through our facilities and animal ambassadors, Rowan Wild strives to provide educational opportunities to the visitors of Dan Nicholas Park and other Rowan County parks.

If you're looking for unique places to stay, the park has a 70-site family campground that includes an outdoor theater. The park boasts 17 picnic shelters equipped with tables and grills that are available for rent for gatherings. There is no admission to enter the park. Most activities are free of charge, while some charge a small fee. Pets are allowed in the park, but not on attractions.
