Rowan County is a place where heritage and history are highly valued and noticeable around every turn. The county boasts 11 National Register districts, five Local Historic districts, a great history museum, the N.C. Transportation Museum, three house museums and a meticulously restored depot that has been featured at the Smithsonian and in well-known movies.
Historic Salisbury Foundation has been showcasing the preservation of history and heritage of our community for more than 45 years. One of their most notable presentations of Rowan County’s dedication to historic preservation is their annual OctoberTour, a tour of historic homes in Salisbury.
Each year a different collection of homes is put on tour for ticket holders to explore, and learn about their history and the preservation measures that have been taken to maintain and restore them. In addition to the home tours, OctoberTour presents a series of events throughout the weekend – some are separated ticketed events, while others are open to the public. These events include a Patron’s Party, silent auction, Restoration & Design Expo, Bank Street Festival and the Tweed Ride annual bike ride. No matter your level of interest of history or homes, OctoberTour is a fun weekend for locals and visitors alike.
