America 250 Locomotive Celebration
August 28-30, 2026 | 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M.
N.C. Transportation Museum | Spencer, N.C.
Step into a once-in-a-generation railroading event as the N.C. Transportation Museum hosts the America 250 Locomotive Celebration - a spectacular gathering of commemorative locomotives from across the country, all specially painted to honor America’s 250th anniversary.
Set against the historic Bob Julian Roundhouse in Spencer, N.C., this three-day event brings together locomotives from Class I, short line, and passenger railroads in a striking red, white, and blue display. Whether you're a railfan, photographer, or planning a family outing, this is one of the most unique events happening in North Carolina in 2026.
What to Expect at the America 250 Locomotive Celebration
Throughout the weekend, visitors will experience a rotating showcase of locomotives, interactive opportunities, and rare photo moments you won’t find anywhere else.

• Rotating locomotive displays on the Bob Julian Roundhouse turntable
• Unique railroad photography opportunities throughout the day
• Night photography sessions (limited capacity, ticketed separately)
• Passenger train rides pulled by a museum diesel locomotive (included with admission, based on availability)
Each day features a different lineup of locomotives, with equipment repositioned and rotated to create new viewing and photography opportunities. If you visit more than once, you’ll have a completely different experience each day.
Train Rides Included with Admission
All daytime event tickets include a passenger train ride on a museum diesel locomotive. Train rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis and do not guarantee a specific departure time.
