Despite the odd thunderstorm, August's forecast is expected to be sunny with a high chance of original artistic experiences. This month, Rowan County will host the continuation of theater camps, a new art exhibit, concerts around every corner and a huge tomato festival that will feature over 50 craft vendors to shop from! #VisitRowanCountyNC this August and see for yourself how #RowanCreates.

 

August 1 - September 5 | Trains that Make America: The Railroad Art of Nadine Charlsen Exhibit

Now through September 5, come see a new art exhibit at the N.C. Transportation Museum. Trains That Make America: The Railroad Art of Nadine Charlsen is on display in the Master mechanic's Office Building, beside the Gift Station. The artist has received national and international recognition and publication. Come see this amazing watercolor art exhibit before it's gone! 

 

August 1 - 5 | Piedmont Players Summer Camps

Piedmont Player's camps are designed to provide a fun and challenging experience for students eager to learn about the theatre! Your children will be able to explore and experience the theatre while learning valuable skills as an artist and actor.

 

August 5, 13 & 27 | Reels & Riffs

Lights! Camera! Action! And Music! Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department presents Reels and Riffs, a movie and music series at Bell Tower Green. This month's lineup of movies and concerts will be comprised of the showing of Spiderman: No Way Home, and musical performances by Brittany Spencer and The Hamiltones.

 

August 6, 7, 11 & 21 | Kannapolis Summer Concert Series

Discover Fun in Kannapolis returns this summer with an incredible lineup of great concerts, movies, and of course, fireworks. For the month of August, come out and enjoy music from artists including  Everclear, Fastball & The Nixons, Band of Oz, RenElvis and Phillip Howe.

 

August 7 | Bands on Bank Street

Pull out your blankets and chairs and join the Dr. Josephus Hall House for an evening of fun and local music featuring Emanuel Wynter, Captain Lunchbox, & Courtney Pucket!

 

August 19 - September 3 | Lee Street Theatre Presents: "The Play That Goes Wrong"

This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, this Olivier Award–winning comedy is a global phenomenon that’s guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter!

 

August 20 | Woodleaf Tomato Festival

All things tomatoes are celebrated in the community that has been a center of tomato crops in the state for more than 125 years. Tomato sandwiches, tomato-eating and best-tasting tomato contests, and tomato costumes are featured, along with a parade, live music, crafts featuring 50+ vendors, a silent auction, baked goods, and food provided by the West Rowan FFA and other vendors.

 

August 27 | Dancing On: Depot Street

Bring your friends and family, bring your lawn chair, and come have fun with the Town of Cleveland! The event this month will feature food trucks and live music performed by Mountain Highway (and special guests)! All concerts will start at 6:30 p.m.
