We Built This: Profiles of Black Architects and Builders in North Carolina Exhibit

Now - January 27, 2024

We Built This celebrates the history and legacy of Black builders and craftspeople in North Carolina. Spanning more than three centuries, the exhibit provides more than two dozen personal profiles and historic context on key topics including slavery and Reconstruction; the founding of HBCUs and Black churches; Jim Crow and segregation; and the rise of Black civic leaders and professionals.

 

Food Truck Tuesdays at the Rowan County Fairgrounds

Each and every Tuesday, the Rowan County Fairgrounds open their gates to friends & families alike for an evening full of food truck varieties. Gates open at 4:30pm close at 8:30pm. The true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

The Salisbury Symphony Presents: "Stars & Space"

Holst’s "The Planets" leads listeners (and performers) through the powerful “astrological significance of the planets” with grand orchestral colors and even an invisible chorus of female voices. The Planets has impacted many composers and works, serving as inspiration for John Williams’ score to Star Wars, and often referenced in popular culture.
