A Rich Rowan County Tradition
The Rowan County Fair has been a staple in the community for more than 65 years. What started in 1951 with a group of dedicated Salisbury Jaycees has grown into one of North Carolina’s top fairs for cattle shows and agricultural exhibits.
Originally created to give farmers and students a place to showcase their work, the fair has always been more than just rides and games - it’s been about community, education, and giving back. Over the years, countless volunteers, fire departments, and civic groups have supported the fair, from helping construct the fairgrounds to running food booths (some fairgoers still fondly recall the legendary chicken and dumplings!).
Today, the fair continues to be run by volunteers and the Jaycees, who use the event’s proceeds to support local projects, scholarships, and community initiatives. Every ticket purchased goes right back into Rowan County.
