Rowan County has a rich arts and cultural community with many arts and cultural venues as well as displays of public art. Salisbury has three theaters downtown, a nationally accredited art gallery, a symphony orchestra, and a revered outdoor sculpture show. The county boasts eleven National Register and five Local Historic districts, a great history museum, the NC Transportation Museum, three house museums and a meticulously restored depot which has been featured at the Smithsonian and in well-known movies.
Rowan County has a rich diverse cultural heritage which can be discovered by taking one of the many self-guided tours that take in these wonderful sites.
Salisbury Sculpture Show – This annual outdoor sculpture show features large outdoor sculptures from artists around the country. Each piece is displayed throughout downtown Salisbury and on the local college campuses.
The African American Heritage Tour offers a lengthy tour of the key African American historic sites which include the Livingstone College and Union Hill area, Gilliam Family Farm, the White Rock Community of Granite Quarry, Village of Gold Hill and the NC Transportation Museum of Spencer.
