The holiday season has arrived in Rowan County. While we're doing things a bit different this year, there's still plenty of options to safely celebrate the season. Check out our list of holiday events below.

Virtual Bright Star Theatre Performance presented by RPL: Rowan Public Library will host a special Bright Star Theatre production to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Bright Star Touring Theatre is a national professional touring company that is based in Asheville. In this performance, main characters Nick and Joy are trying to make it home for the holidays when they get separated. Travelling the world in search of each other, they learn about winter holidays from all over the globe, including Kwanzaa, The Festival of Lights, the Chinese New Year, and the Lohri festival in India.

The Winterland Express & Christmas in Village Park: The Winterland Express train runs every evening through December 30 (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Ride the train through Village Park to enjoy more than 250,000 lights, make s'mores and more. Admission to the park and viewing of the lights is free; tickets to ride the train and carousel are $2 per person, per ride. This year, Winterland Express riders will need to make a reservation and pay in advance to ride.

NC Transportation Museum in Lights: A Drive Thru Experience: The NC Transportation Museum will host their first ever drive thru light experience. Visitors will enjoy the historic site illuminated by thousands of holiday lights. The museum’s historic structures and antique railroading equipment will be part of the scenery, shining like never before. Visitors can enjoy the 1.25 mile drive thru experience, as well as visit the museum's gift station to purchase holiday gifts.

The Cannon Ballers' Festival of Trees: The Cannon Ballers’ Inaugural Festival of Trees presented by Tim Marburger Chevrolet will bring the joy of the Holidays to Atrium Health Ballpark! During the Cannon Ballers’ three day event, December 11-13, the community will enjoy beautifully decorated Atrium Health Ballpark while viewing over 150 Christmas trees decorated by families, businesses and community organizations.

Candy Cane Train at the NC Transportation Museum: The N.C. Transportation Museum is offering the Candy Cane Train weekends through December 20. This fun and festive holiday-themed day time train ride will be decorated for the season and each rider will receive a candy cane. This safe family event will allow for social distancing and train rides are limited to 30% capacity, with one-way movement through passenger cars.

Holiday Open House at the Historic Hall House: The Historic Salisbury Foundation traditionally hosts the holiday tour of the Hall House, but this year they are prepared to spread holiday cheer outdoors! Rather than touring the inside of the Hall House, an outdoor open house on the Hall House lawn will be held December 12 from 4 – 6 p.m. Guests can enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, and some treats as they view the decorated exterior of the house.

Lessons and Carols: You are invited to begin your Christmas season by viewing Catawba College’s 33rd annual Service of Lessons and Carols in the beautifully decorated Omwake-Dearborn Chapel from the comfort of your home. The service will be livestreamed on Sunday, December 13 at 7pm, and the recording of the service will remain accessible at Catawba's YouTube channel, website, and other social media platforms.

Pedal Factory Sunday Night Light Stroll Bicycle Ride: The Pedal Factory in Downtown Salisbury will meet for a special holiday right to see the area's best holiday decorations. Rides happen every Sunday in December. Check out their social media to sign up in advance.
